3) At times there was no staff at the reception and the staff that I did communicate with either spoke very poor English (or none at all, the assumption was that everyone should be speaking Spanish) or appeared to be genuinely disinterested and didn't pay attention to customers' concerns.

As a public health policy, smoking should only be allowed in remote designated areas and not in the pool ares which is full of small children. 2) guests were allowed to consume alcohol and to smoke heavily in the pool area right next to many small children and other guests who did not appreciate being exposed to second hand smoke. The reasons for not giving the hotel 5 stars are below: 1) the bathroom sink in the room was clogged upon check in. Also, breakfast selection was surprisingly good and plentiful for the typical selection for the Holiday Inn Express brand. The hotel is renovated and accommodations were fine and it is one of the better quality hotel choices in the busy and very touristy Orlando center. There's also a Marriott and Embassy Suites right beside the Clarion as well. The Comfort Inn was much much safer and cleaner. we found some available rooms at the Comfort Inn which was right beside the Clarion. Pretty sure it won't do any good to call this hotel and speak to someone there but I will be reaching out to the corporate headquarters. I can promise you, the roaches touched more in the rooms than we did. They charged me for 1 full night for each room. As it turns out, I did NOT get a full refund as promised (big surprise). I asked for a receipt or confirmation of the refund and she said she couldn't give me anything as proof but that it would be processed in a week. She actually apologized and told me I would get a full refund. I showed Marilyn the roach pics and handed her the broken toilet handle and told her we could not stomach staying there and wanted a refund. We took our bags back to our car, I went back to the front desk. In general, this place was nasty and the clientele was definitely not a safe place for families. My 19 year old daughter, was trying to shut the curtains in her room and some random ”creepy” man passing by, who also appeared to be on drugs, saw her trying to shut the curtains, and stopped and starred at her in the window. We had one room that the toilette handle had completely fallen off and was laying on the floor. The rooms smelled terrible and one of them had a very strong smell of cigarettes. The minute we walked into our rooms and turned on the lights, the roaches scattered.

Ironically, the entire parking lot smelled strongly of ********* which was coming from several of the rooms. When we finally got checked in, and was headed to our car to get our bags, 3 police cars with their lights on pulled up to the front lobby very fast and got into a loud and heated argument with one of the guests who appeared to be on drugs. The so called ”front desk” employee, Marilyn, came across very abrasive and she announced our room numbers very loudly in front of everyone standing in the lobby. I booked 3 rooms for my family on vacation to Universal.
